Sustainability at the Wedgewood

Driven by Our Local Environment

Inspired by our beautiful home city, the Wedgewood Hotel is deeply committed to preserving the natural beauty that surrounds us. Through thoughtful energy conservation initiatives, waste management solutions, ethical food practices, and ongoing environmental partnerships, we are continually working to make your stay greener!

At the Wedgewood Hotel, we respectfully acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the unceded and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and Coast Salish peoples.

We are so fortunate to call Vancouver home. Being surrounded by beautiful mountains and ocean reminds us every day of our responsibility to care for the land we share.

Elpie Marinakis, Co-Owner and Managing Director

Sustainability at Every Stage

Across every aspect of the Wedgewood experience, sustainability is a guiding principle, from the systems we implement to the brands we choose for our guestrooms, restaurant, and spa. We are proud to partner with thoughtful suppliers who share our commitment to responsible practices and environmental stewardship.

Sustainability in Our Rooms

We take pride in accounting for sustainability in everything we do. On average, a hotel guest generates approximately one kilogram of waste per night. Our goal is to reduce this footprint wherever possible through responsible waste management programs, energy-saving initiatives, and partnerships with eco-conscious suppliers.

While we recognize that sustainability is an ongoing journey, we believe in transparency and in setting measurable standards that hold us accountable.

Practices We Have Implemented in Our Rooms

  • Smart thermostats
  • Newly fitted HVAC systems
  • Energy-efficient LED lighting
  • Reduction of single-use plastics
  • Sustainable toiletries
  • Refillable bath products
  • Eco-Friendly paper products
  • Environmentally responsible cleaning products
  • Recyclable and compostable minibar packaging
  • Eco-flow water fixtures
  • Encouragement of eco-friendly transportation options

Protein Sourcing

The meat industry carries significant environmental and ethical considerations. At Bacchus, we are committed to working with suppliers who prioritize animal welfare and sustainable agricultural practices.

Much of our beef is sourced from the Fort Macleod region of Alberta, where producers emphasize rotational grazing, water conservation, and grassland preservation. These practices improve soil health, enhance carbon storage, protect wetlands, and support native prairie ecosystems.

This regional approach aligns with broader provincial and national goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen the sustainability of Canadian agriculture.
